The 2018 Commonwealth Games (officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Gold Coast 2018) has been kicked off recently in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth. It is the fifth time Australia has hosted the Commonwealth Games. The Motto of CWG 2018 is Share the Dream”.  Borobi was named as the mascot of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in 2016. Borobi is a blue koala, with indigenous markings on its body.

The CWG 2018 welcomed more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories to the Gold Coast and event cities Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, to share in the celebration of sport, entertainment and culture. The largest sporting event to be staged in Australia this decade, CWG 2018 will feature the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising 18 sports and seven para-sports.

Beach Volleyball, Para Triathlon and Women’s Rugby Sevens will make their Commonwealth Games debuts and for the first time at a Commonwealth Games, an equal number of men’s and women’s medal events will be contested. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) was established in January 2012.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games were held in Glasgow, Scotland under the motto “People, Place, Passion”. England topped the medal tally with total 174 Medals (58 Golds).
