1.Vox populi
Meaning: the opinions or beliefs of the majority.
Example: We must, as a democracy, respect the will of the majority. Absolutely! Because the voice of the people — vox populi — is the voice of truth.



2.Hinterland 
Meaning: the remote areas of a country away from the coast or the banks of major rivers.
Example: “the hinterland of southern Italy”
synonyms: the back of beyond, the middle of nowhere, the backwoods, the wilds, the bush, 

3.Sequestered (adjective)
Meaning: (of a place) isolated and hidden away.
Example: Born to no privilege in the hinterland isolation of the temple-town of Gorakhpur, he was raised in no metropolis, educated in no sequestered school or ivy-covered college.
synonyms: secluded, cloistered, hidden away, concealed, tucked away, hard to find;

4.Eponymous (adjective)
Meaning: (of a person) giving their name to something.
Example: But being sharp-witted, he turned social stagnations into political steroids and taking his town’s eponymous dedication to cow protection seriously, became not just a priest but head priest of the temple. 

5.Quintessence (noun)
Meaning: the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class.
Example: MP Adityanath remained that quintessence of parliamentary democracy — the private Member, the back or middle-bencher, sometimes of the party in power, sometimes in the Opposition,
synonyms: perfect example, exemplar, prototype, stereotype, picture, epitome, embodiment, personification, paragon, ideal; 

6.Subversion (noun)
Meaning: the undermining of the power and authority of an established system or institution.
Example: where another stony reality stares us in the face, the reality that is our democracy’s subversion, distortion — in fact, its perversion.

7.Hedonism (noun)
Meaning: the pursuit of pleasure; sensual self-indulgence.
Example: Donald Trump is hedonism personified compared to the celibate head priest of the Gorakhnath temple.
synonyms: self-indulgence, indulgence, pursuit of pleasure, pleasure-seeking, lotus-eating, epicureanism, epicurism, self-gratification;

8.Ostracize (verb)
Meaning: exclude from a society or group.
Example: The creation of the bogey of the ‘Other’, an entity to be feared, hated, isolated, ostracized, intimidated, blocked from entering, perhaps hustled out, is a technique of emotional branding that is 
adroit; it is not clean.
synonyms: exclude, shun, spurn, cold-shoulder, give someone the cold shoulder, reject, repudiate, boycott, blackball, blacklist, 

9.Percolate (verb)
Meaning: (of a liquid or gas) filter gradually through a porous surface or substance.
Example: looked ahead to a future in which a truly representative democracy would percolate India’s soil.
synonyms: filter, drain, drip, ooze, seep, trickle, dribble, strain, leak, leach;

10.Anomaly (noun)
Meaning: something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected.
Example: “there are a number of anomalies in the present system”
synonyms: oddity, peculiarity, abnormality, irregularity, inconsistency, incongruity, deviation, aberration, quirk, freak, exception, departure, divergence, variation;
